Randy posted about this so I responded and thought it might be interesting to others. As some of you may know, I have a very, very, bad swiss cheese memory, but here are a few childhood memories I remember.

I have alot of good memories of fishing and crabbing down by Sabine Pass in Texas.
Swimming in the Gulf with my grandmother and grandpa and my little sister.

Other good memories include being baby-sat by my grandma and the Port Arthur News did a piece on her and other grandma's that were doing the child-care thing while moms were at work. They got a picture of me and my sister both running in different directions away from her with her in the middle.

Going to the Alabama-Coushatta reservation near Lufkin (I think) and riding a train around the woods.
Having Curious George and The Runaway Bunny read to me by my mom.

Do you remember the Hickory Dickory Dock clock? I somehow have that memory connected to the reservation memories. I think the clock was close by (maybe at a restaurant--Picket Fences or something like that). Maybe the swiss cheese memory things runs in the family. Most of memories are centered around the pictures I've seen.
I also remember going to the Sea Wall a lot and to the park near Rose Hill. Walking to the Lakeview swimming pool. Walking to Old Grandma's house and singing "Here Comes Peter Cottontail." Making lots of sand pies--and often having a pile of sand to play in O'mama's front yard. Helping Pete work in the garden--the feel of seedy cotton freshly picked.

Yep, the Picket House was right across from the highway, where they had the big clock with the mouse that ran up to the tune of Hickory Dickory Dock when you put in a quarter or something like that.
