My TV still has a purple spot on the right side that shows up occasionally, mostly on white background types of stuff. It's funny because it always shows up on Kelly right where she sits in Live with Regis and Kelly making her a Barney shade of purple. I'm looking at new TV's but they are all HDTV's and so expensive. I'm looking at a showroom discounted really big TV for $1300. It's like 50 inches or something like that. It would take up my whole entertainment nook.
Decisions, Decisions. Do I live with the spot, or buy a new TV....?

You can get an HDTV for $1300 for sure. You just won't get 1080i(the really high-res stuff) in the 50" range. You can also get a traditional tube TV with HDTV ratios and 1080i for about that price at about 40".

If you really don't want a new TV, you can see about getting the tube degaussed. Degaussing happens on you monitor when it starts up and does the weird "broing" sound. They do the same thing at the TV repair shop, but they use large capacitors to do it.

I'd get it done on our TV, which does the same thing, but I REALLY want a giant HDTV.

I'm thrifty, so I'd see about getting a repairman to come out and take a look at it.

If you really just want a new TV, then do your research, read the reviews and find the one you want. Everyone deserves to treat themselves every once in a while. :-)
