I'm now gainfully employed starting early June and will be heading back to Houston.

Now comes the subject of housing. What should I do? Rent/buy? House, Apt. or Condo?

So many choices!

If you plan on staying in Houston for more than a year or two, I would buy. Rent has always seemed like throwing money away to me. As long as you can afford it, go for it. And I personally am a fan of a home over an apt or condo. I like the idea of having all 4 walls (so to speak) my own, not shared.

Rent for your first year. It will allow you to settle in and re-acclimate to Houston, plus, it's something of a seller's market right now. After that, if you're pretty sure you're going to stay for at least 3 more years, buy. What you buy depends on what you need at the moment, and what you plan for your future. Use your renting year to think about that.

That's kinda what I'm leaning toward right now. Renting for 6-12 months and then finding something.

Liz is SMART. Listen to her. I typically do when advice is in the offing!

(that, and she said what I was gonna say!)

Congrats! I think I would do what you are doing right now if I was in your shoes. Rent until something better comes along. Good luck!
