So recently I've been on a kick reading sci-fi about post singularity or transition societies. I read Pushing Ice by A. Reynolds a few months ago and while his characters seemed pretty flat, the ideas behind the tech were very good. There's a good free online novel called Accelerando that deals with these issues that I've just finished.

Oh, wow. I can highly recommend Dan Simmons' Ilium and Olympos, both of which qualify as books dealing with "post-human" society. They're excellent novels, technically within the sci fi genre, but rife with Vast Literary Analyses, black humor, Shakespeare, Proust, sentient androids from three thousand years in the future, ancient Greece, the Iliad, and malevolent aliens that feed on quantum residue of hatred.

AWESOME.

I'll put that on my list to check out. I've read some of Simmons work Hyperion and it really didn't do much for me.
