I've completed the largest part of power washing and staining/waterproofing the deck. I just need to do the outward facing surfaces and the area on the porch. Beautiful weather over the weekend, so it was a pleasure to be outside and work.

Apparently in wood stain land, transparent natural (which I thought was a synonym for clear) doesn't mean clear stain, it means brown.

You can see the differences between the grey wood on the outward facing areas which I haven't gotten yet, and the areas I did.

It looks beautiful! It's really made a huge difference and I definitely think your hard work paid off.

Thanks! I worked on it all during Thanksgiving week when I was off, and most of this weekend.

The color lightens up a bit over time so it looks a little more natural.

BTW, it's a good idea to give the deck a spray of water from the hose to see if you got the sealer on thick enough. Look for any spots where the water doesn't bead up unnaturally. Those spots need more seal. Old wood will soak up the seal pretty quickly.

Both sealers say a thin coat is recommended, and I put two thick coats on both decks, so I think I'm pretty good on coverage. What I haven't done is take a brush and get the rails and spots that the roller and brush couldn't get.
