Not All Who Wander Are Lost

So I'm seeing Return of the King tonight at the Alamo with a friend. It was wonderful to hear her excited about joining me for a nice evening.

I'm trying to work out a nice movie evening next week with Pyrochan too. Hopefully we can find a time and movie we both agree on. Shouldn't be too hard, she has good taste in movies. (Read = similar to mine).

I been thinking on life and love lately for obvious reasons.

Dating and trying to fall in love is risky, you risk heartbreak and hurt for yourself and others against a chance at happiness. If you aren't willing to take risks, you end up alone and unhappy. It takes bravery and courage to try, but it's an absolute necessity that you do. It's sad that such an obvious fact to me isn't obvious to everybody else.

I absolutely HATE to see people I care about make decisions that are so obviously stupid and wrong that it makes me cringe. I just wish I could beat some sense into their stubborn little heads, with a baseball bat if necessary. Unfortunately, you can't beat sense into people. The world would be a better place if you could. You can only beat them senseless, and that's counterproductive because then they are even stupider than before.

You are right without question. Risks are necessary in love. There are no guarantees. Take chances, give it all that you have and see where it leaves you. It has always been my motto. If I had not followed that creed I would not be where I am today.

I'm a Rocky Road fan. Just like in life there has to be some bumps for your ice cream to be good.

That's a lovely comparison. I never thought that Rocky Road would bear so much significance in terms of dating.

And by the way, in my experience, it IS possible to beat sense into people, sans blunt instruments, fortunately--but they won't forgive you for it.

My main thought on RoTK was that is was LONG. Probably about 30 minutes too long. Jackson could have cut 30 minutes just by removing scenes that consisted only of crying hobbits.

The final scene was good, although I didn't hang around for the alternate ending screening.

My vote -- second film was the best of the three. RoTK had really cool battle scenes (thanks to upgraded clusters at Weta), but the overall film wasn't as good.

Conversely, the third Volume in the books was the best book of the three (possibly even of the four, but I haven't read The Hobbit in 15 years).
